This initiative focused on supporting citizen participation in public service delivery in order to ensure that school infrastructure was seismically safe in Armenia, one of the most seismically active regions of the world.
Citizen monitors monitored priority projects using our mobile app DevelopmentCheck, reporting on issues identified and engaging with key stakeholders to ensure that schools were constructed according to plans. As this initiative focused on seismic safety, the key areas monitored included ensuring adherence to contractual specifications and ensuring that the materials used in construction were of adequate quality. Community monitors worked with an engineer who was contracted to support during monitoring visits.
This initiative was implemented by our partner organisation Armavir Development Center (ADC) in collaboration with local civil society organisations in Gavar, Kapan, Vanadzor, Stepanavan and Yeghegnadzor.
